I have quite a long post that I am working on that is good, but I am behind my resolution to do one a week so I’m going to do a quick one.
I think that I’m just going to write about films and go off on long rants so that this has some direction moving forward
Anyway, this is just a quick funny thing. Neon Genesis Evangelion is a seminal anime series from the 1990s that was remade recently in a film trilogy, it’s one I plan on doing a long rant on at some point, but to put myself through it again so I know what I’m on about….

Ok quick summary, the premise sounds like about 50% of anime, the earth is being attacked by these weird alien monsters and there are 3 teenagers who can pilot robots that can fight them (they also still have to go to school, because Japan.
But it is very psychological and dark, it goes into themes of religion, suicide, sexuality, existentialism, very much like what actual teenagers are like.
The adults are also deeply deeply fucked in the head and as it goes along they are this organisation in Tokyo that the rest of the world hates and they never tell you if they are the good or bad guys.
But anyway, the funny bit, I won’t ruin the plot, but as you can imagine it all comes to a conclusion with the Western powers invading, the final ‘angel’ (alien monster) attacking, and the organisation falling to pieces.

The people who made it did one of the best trolls ever, this was like Game of Thrones, everyone wanted to see the end by the end, it was a big deal that they would do a 1 hour long final episode, so all of the nerds got home, put their TV on, and they did this really weird episode where the troubled hero was put in a room alone in a chair, and it turned into a dream with a whole show of the characters saying it was all in his head and there were no aliens or robots, he just needed to open up to himself.
They had flashbacks of him being at school being weird and all of the characters came and told him they loved him. It is quite a clever device, but this was the conclusion of an epic end of the world thing so of course everyone wanted to know what happened in the story.
Apparently when it was aired on TV a load of fans who lived in Tokyo went down to the place where they made it and had a riot and burned the studio down.
That is trolling.

They did have the end of the story, it was epic, if you type in ‘End of Evangelion’ into YouTube you can see the highlights, but it’s worth watching the new films and the old series in full. The end in the Eva world is completely baffling and pretty disturbing, even if you have watched the series it’s a bizarre hour of television
Anyway, there you go, it has a load of interpretations, but it’s this genuinely beautiful exploration of just being weird and a bit autistic.
6/10 lol
