This is just to highlight something from one of my favourite podcasts. Already pretty famous and apparently very internet famous right now.
Mike Duncan is a ‘kind of famous’ podcaster who does accessible ‘deep dives’ into historical events. He made a name for himself by going through the entire history of Rome, over about 10 years he did half an hour a week starting with the legends and the few villages that turned into Rome in 500AD, all the way to the collapse of the West Roman Empire 1000 years later.
After that his next podcast project he did the same for the most important revolutions in modern history. He did British Civil War, French, American, Bolivar, Mexico, and then Russia. After the Russian Revolution he went on a hiatus, but he recently came back with this amazing fictional account of a revolution on Mars 200 years in the future.
This has just finished and it was brilliant, it’s got bits from the other revolutions and some present day stuff, and as you’d expect, just some general nerdiness, in a good way. Each episode is only 30 minutes long, it’s perfect for driving to school or whatever.
I went through the whole History of Rome series during Covid when I was doing a lot of long walks to nowhere in particular, I’m still on the Russian Revolution in his Revolutions series but I did all of the Mars one as it came out, he’s just wrapped it up.
Brief scene setting. 100 years in the future humans start colonising Mars for this mineral which is the fuel source by then. The world is controlled by corporations and how it played out, the biggest ‘OmniCorp’, controls all of outer space so the people who live on Mars are subjects of Earth, the corporation being rubbish in a corporate way kicks off a series of events that start calls for Martian independence, and…seriously, check it out, it’s much more fun than reading this shit.
