New song and video by me. The clips are from two lovely Japanese anime from the 1980s. Nausicca: Valley of the Wind, and Dragon’s Heaven. There’s something beautiful about old anime how it’s a lot more simply drawn, maybe it’s just nostalgia on my part, but the characters kind of look sweeter because they are a bit more rounded and less detailed.
Having said that both of these anime are highly regarded for being beautifully drawn. I would highly recommend both of them.
Kind of on brand, both are set in post apocalyptic deserts, because of course they are, in both of them there was a catastrophe 1000 years ago and they live in a mixture of the past and the future, in Nausicca most of the world is covered by this toxic jungle full of insects, in Dragon’s Heaven they live in this desert town and don’t really explain the world.
Both of them are highly recommended by me, especially Nausicca. It’s by Ghibli and although it is one of the early ones so the art isn’t at the standard as the modern ones, it’s still beautiful to look at.
Dragon’s Heaven is more interesting than brilliant, if you can find a good copy, the artwork is really unique, I think that it was all beautiful paintings, it doesn’t look like a normal 80s anime.
