Dubstar: Disgraceful

Ok, I’ll be honest, I’m drunk.

I’m going to do a listen through of this album

Prelude, I love this album so much. They are from Newastle in the 1990s and underrated. That would be enough even if they were rubbish, but they were a legit pop band and that thing where a bunch of clever people make a pop band and it’s not too clever.

I’m going to do one of my probably worthless reviews where I listen along and post thoughts as I go

The album cover is brilliant, the lass is cute and has a lovely lilting folky voice, I think she did folk as a proper job, the production is great. As I am remembering it it is a gem. Let’s hope so.

Stars

Yep, love it. I used to really love this song so much, it is very good like there is a lot of clever stuff going on. I want the bass to be louder but that might just be my f’d up head.
Nobody ever liked that song as much as me

Anywhere

Yes again. It sounds like Japanese pop, I bet she taught English in Japan or something. It defnitely has that very crisp production that doesn’t sound like English music. Or maybe that’s just me.

To be honest though, like it sounds slowed down. I think this review is just my taste. There’s a bit of the Moby about this track, like would playing it fast really hurt?

Very cheerful

Just a Girl

The folkie song. She is a folk singer. It’s a lush song.

There is a thing about Newcastle, because we are a small city that is kind of abroad for the south, we are not Scottish or English.

Ok lets be honest, no disrespect to this song, but it’s just a 90s song. It’s good but she didn’t lean in to the storytelling.

The Elevator Song

Yes I remember this, I always went along with this, I used to have the CD and this is why, you know

But this is like a lot of people including me. I imagine that they set out to write a rubbish song, and then it was actually canny good. Like this whole album, I bet it was on the TV show with the mad people in London. I’ll remember it later on.

There was a gay Indian guy and a cook who was addicted to the drugs

The Day I See You Again

Ok yes but no. This is like they are 10 years older than me, so they loved The Smiths and New Order, and to a lesser extent St Etienne

This is the worst song.

I don’t know, but there is a chance that one of Dubstar is the sort of person who googles Dubstar and reads this. Hello!

This is like a minor Pet Shop Boys song. I bet they love the PSB lol. Paninero

Week in, Week Out

I hope that someone likes reading me hating albums, I just don’t have the ability to do it anymore. The internet has ruined it for me. I listened to this CD on repeat, it’s lovely production and she can sing.

I dunno. Neanche carne ne pesce

Not so Manic Now

I love this song. This is the one. The video and the song and everything. It’s this bubblegum pop but it’s about a granny who got mugged in Crudass Park. It’s genuine beautiful

It is weird becase Newcastle is now kind of a posh city, there was a real nastiness about it.

I am from the countryside but I have slept in the tower blocks and my friends all lived there and there was a weird thing about it where weirdoes do just turn up, and we didn’t have any money or anything for them to steal, so they ask for a cup of tea.

I think that it’s her voice. She is a bit too objective for most songs. hmmm
I’d love to get her to do my lyrics. I might do that. She has that kind of removed quality

Ok sorry but I’m going to do it again like I always do. I looked at the last few songs and I just can’t be arsed.

Here is a good tip, 7 out of 10 is an insult. 6 is bad, 8 is good. I will give this a 6. No disrespect to Dubstar,
