So this thing has become a battle with myself to finish. And it went all squiffy in the middle, but I am at the end and I am going to listen to this album and pretend I completed the project and didn’t just give up halfway through
So A Moon Shaped Pool many people think is the final album by Radiohead, it deals with finality because one of the big themes is that Thom Yorke’s wife had a long running battle with cancer that killed her just before the album came out. The song ‘True Love Waits’ is one of their songs that they never released because it was so personal to Thom and her, but since she left it was put on the album as a tribute to her.
It’s much more personal than the other albums, like very album is about being lonely, but it’s usually around a theme that relates to capitalism. This one is more about just the people you know and love and lose.
For me, although it came out in 2016 it was my Covid album. I moved back to my parents, I had a few things I listened to on repeat, and this was one, I went for long walks and took magic mushrooms which you can find in the fields where my parents live. i would sometimes come into the social club which no longer exists, i would be tripping balls and watch the football or make jokes with the small group of people in the social on a sunday night. i felt like a weirdo because i was basically a foreigner since i grew up down the road but lived abroad. but thinking back of course i wasn’t, they were so nice to me and very happy to have me there.
especially since it was COVID and everything was upside down
So anyway. I have done this and then I am done, it is shoddy project, but it’s a project nontheless. I’m going to listen to Moon Shaped Pool, write a lerd of shite, and it exists even if nobody reads it. Hell is other people, but that was another person who said that, so checkmate
Burn The Witch
This was a return to form. Like I don’t know what they are doing. Low Flying Panic Attack
They had that silly animation based on Trumpton. It was nice to see them enjoy themselves. Like even though they are this experimental anti capitalist thing, they are also funny. Good for you lads.
DayDreaming
And this was the mushroom song. and the mushroom video. Like walking through doors. I love this. I always saw him as an alien guy but then I related to Thom in this video. Although I do with he looked less tramplike
Dreamers will never learn. beyond the point of no return.
Like I remember there were theories that it was about dying and it was you go through doors and dying is just another door. This album is obsessed with death. I mean it is true, we all kind of die all the time.
This is the good stuff, like it’s not a new trick to play the song in reverse, but it works
Damn it Thom, you did it again.
Apparently there is a thing when you go through a door you forget things, like it happens to everyone and it’s not just you being dumb, doors and gates are really set in our brain and we probably shouldn’t have doors in our homes because they change our mind every time we go through
Decks Dark
Honestly I can not express how much I like this better than the last few. I fucking love Radiohead. It’s just his voice guiding you and some very clever music. It’s kind of boring, but after all of that shit radiohead.
all of the thoughts i have
i went to Chiang Mai in Thailand a year ago and thought ‘wow wouldn’t it be awesome if there were zombies. then i went to chiang rai and it was way better. i ate a huge fish on my own that cost about 3 pounds, went on a 7 hour bike ride on a motorbike, then went home and some bar girl
i’m not even into that but yeah i do like sex of course even with strangers
Desert Island Disk
Yeap fine. I just want to finish this ordeal. Dont like this song, it would be great I guess if it was not more boring shite.
It’s good. I’m just jaded
Full Stop
I wish lol. I dunno man, like some of the synths are good, and yes we know he’s a really good singer and you are all great at music, but like it sounds like presets, like you buy a keyboard and it has 100 fun sounds, that is what they sound like with synths.
I like this one, it’s about being murdered? who even cares?
Remember the film Naked? like some guy from Manchester just walking around being a dick to people from london cos his mate kicked him out
ok this song is great i agree. i love the use of something or other.
it’s 5am here i have really gon off a bridge. i need to return to human and have a day of pain
Glass Eye
God these are so long.
This song actually made me trip my balls off and I’m not even on drugs. That was amazing.
Identikit
I remember this song. nice. If I met Thom Yorke I would ask him why he became a ghost
Sweet faced one with nothing left inside that we all can love
This was one of those ones I had on my headphones to th epoint I wanted to shout it at people lol
Still got it thom, still got it.
It does just make you feel ok to be haunted when a radiohead song catches you. like there are ghosts floating around and they catch them
cheered me right up this because i used to love this song so much.
i think a lot of this album is older radiohead redone, cos i remember the manics did an album similar where it was all of the songs that they didn’t finish when they were young and it had that kind of feeling, like more nicer lol
Like an older version talking to a younger version, cos much as it’s fun being youngm nobody wants to be young
The Numbers
Yes nice, it’s smug though . Like much as it’s brilliant is it as good as High and Dry? Or their other hit song I would Fix You?
Behave Nick only nearly there
I must admit I m more confused by what they were trying to do than I was. Like are they dong anything? Is anyone? My music is meant for at 4am when you’ve been out and come home and want something nice and sweet
I don’t know when this wouldn’t be aggravating lol
The Monster Mash
Finally, the hit radiohead single. It’s amazing that they stumbled on this ‘in the lab’ I can’t believe they made me wait 8 albums to hear the song
It was a graveyard smash
It caught on in a flash
Now we are going
Have a spooky Halloween
Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Do Bikini
Then they followed it up with another hilarious smash hit. A real change of ton for Radiohead
Thoso radioheads from England are really a fine bunch of lads
True Love Waits
This song is just so sad, like it’s sad when you know that it’s about him and how he knew his wife was going to get ill and die and how they had this kid together and he has to deal with the fact that his kid had to deal with that and was going to be a weird lonely guy like him despite everything that he had done because it’s just what it is , but then you also think about yourself, and maybe you aren’t that unlucky, but if you get toghether with someone and love each other you both share this huge pain that drew you together
and it’s like the hedgehog dilema. you have these spikes to protect you, but then you can’t hug because of your spikes, so you just keep poking each other
and you want warmth but you have to get poked by a spike
