Here is some weird ephemera that I found today.
I’ve always liked this song, I think that everyone has, it’s really dated, but the vocal is so good. It’s one of those ones that loads of people have tried to improve but noone really has
I’m having a go now lol
But the weird thing that I didn’t know, it was also a surreal Japanese advert in 1985. It freaked everyone out in Japan and the rumour was they both died. I mean, look at it
The whole story behind the song is interesting. It was by a singer called Jane. Her boyfriend was MAnhester a poet and they recorded themselves, they sent her singing the song in to John Peel and it was popular, just the lass singing
Then someone used it for a remix and it turned into the worldwide hit. Cool story, loads in it.
I still think that it has a weird life to it. Everyone knows the refrains and the singing, but listen to this very quick version that I did of another bit of the song

‘Sitting in this field, sitting in this field
I remember how we were going to sit in this field, but never quite did
Rain or appointments, or something
Rain or appointments’
