Radiohead: Ok Computer

This is the one that everyone likes and made them turn because they completed rock.

It’s kind of mad just how big this album was, like it was one of those things, it was a bit like The Matrix, like after that you couldn’t listen to loads of albums or watch films because they just seemed old fashioned.

Now we don’t listen to them because everyone else used the tricks, but it was just a thing to use that many special effects on a rock album.

I have this big theory about the year 1997. Like Radiohead ended Britpop, Lady Diana being murdered ended the Royal Family, and Tony Blair ended the Parliament. Like those things all still exist, and there is the counterpoint that England kind of works like that where it ends and starts and ends and starts, but shut up.
This, like The Bends really affected me. Probably more, I was 17 and wass obsessed with it, they had about 50 B side songs that were also better than most rock that was coming out. When I got the album and put it on my shitty CD player I had an LSD kind of experience where I lived in the album.
I also wrote a load of poems that I don’t remember just from the whole idea that they were on about I do remember

Full to burst, with rusty pipes, it’s a wonder I don’t drown
Full to burst, with rusty dreams, it’s a wonder I don’t dream

I think that was also inspired by Jack from Tekken so don’t be that impressed

what the fucking hell?

Ok anyway. cigarette then for your benefit and completely unselfishly, i will listen to Ok Computer and write shit about it.

An Airbag Save my Life

This rocks. This is going to be really hard to write because of the jizz all over my keyboard

Don’t worry if you are reading this, I am less enthusiastic about grown up Radiohead than young Radiohead

My favourite thing about this song, they put the distortion pedal on while he’s playing open chords so it sounds totally mad, like that is a terrible idea to play open chords with a distortion pedal on because all of the strings are going, but it works the way they mixed it.

This song is underrated. Stuff should explode when they play it

I’m actually having second thoughts about doing this because I would absolutely not read someone just raving on about one of their favourite albums. I am going to have to think of some trivia to make it interesting

Paranoid Android

Such a weird song this. Like it doesn’t really sound like anything else.

I’m not going to say why it’s good you’ve all heard it, it’s disorienting and unsettling but it needed to be said.

The video for this is a cartoon by a Swedish guy called Robin, they used to have the cartoon on MTV and it was great, like it was just a guy in a hat called Robin walking around and weird stuff happened and his face never changed, he had a voice over where he told you that he tried to this and it didn’t work. It was very Swedish.

This is a bad idea, like even if someone does read the blog and finds my writing interesting, they’d get to me being a fanboy of Radiohead and realise that I was boring.

Or maybe it’s just listening to Radiohead brings self doubt to the surface.

I can’t go on, I must go on

This song is way too long, it’s a flex I think, like Britpop was still a thing and then they did this song that was really hard to play or even listen to with segments to not be like a pop band where it was all easy

Subterranean Homesick Alien

Oh come on now, I’m trying to be negative, but they just make it impossible. This song is so beautiful, I should do this with my music, like there is a kind of a pop song in there, but it’s just smothered in these lovely special effects. They are nerdy guys and they always put their music through a computer, but now the computers work. This song is underrated

I know a bit about aliens, it’s weird because there are all of the stupid ones where someone just had an episode, but there are some really scary things attributed to aliens, look up Skinwalker Ranch, like there was a crash, the locals said it was a UFO, and then there were these weird bits of metal everywhere that the government turned up and seized, but everyone there who touched them got cancer, and some of the people who spoke out had that CIA death where they drove out to the countryside and shot themselves in the back of the head

Exit Music (For a Film)

I don’t like this one so much to be honest. It’s about Romeo and Juliet, it’s a beautiful song but it’s not really in the vibe of the album. They should have had Polythene instead.

This is a great headphones album, loads of it doesn’t show up on speakers.

Let Down

I like this song. In keeping with the first two albums it’s kind of a boring song in the middle so you can roll up a joint or try to touch her boobs only now she’s older and really wants you to touch her boobs.
But this one is very sophisticated, it’s all twangy and stuff.

It’s not brilliant, I actually only like the beginning because he goes ‘transport, motorways and tramlines’ and that’s great when it comes on when you are on transport because you go ‘oh yeah, transport’

what a moron I am

Karma Police

Another brilliant song, just very well produced and beautiful music. I love how they clearly hate everyone, like this was the mid 1990s and Britain was having a big party and they just hated it because they were adults and it was bullshit. This is like a song you would play to a young person who didn’t like Radiohead because the piano lick is so good

I did a jungle song that sampled the piano riff

Fitter, Happier

I can’t believe that they got Steven Hawking to be on the album

This is legit brilliant, especially in the context. Just a poem on a computer

A pig in a cage

It’s actually all true the sarcasm and cynicicm. More true now than then

Still cries at a good film. I had a phase where I cried at everything. I have never worked out crying.

Electioneering

This song always confused me. It’s this really rock and roll song. And it is their kind of rock and roll, like it’s very clever and lots of clever guitar stuff, but they are just actually referencing real stuff. This is probably some people’s favourite song on the album because it sounds like 70s rock and it’s not oblique, but probably my least favourite.

It’s good

Climbing up the Walls

Ok this song is also where I regret jizzing on the keyboard before. It’s another one that some people love but I don’t. It’s like they are doing a triphop song, but they don’t know how it works yet so it sounds like music from a bad film.

They did a song that didn’t make it onto an album called Talk Show Host that is the same theme but is way better. Like I think it’s about this kind of evil that exists in the middle class, we all live in our home and spend so much time with the same three or four people it sends everyone insane.

I think that it’s different now as a mainstream thing, but our parents who were boomers or hippies never got any instructions and just got stuck in these weird situations where they owned a house and a car and

songs over. lets not think about it

No Surprises

This is still one of my favourite songs ever. It’s a nursery rhyme and a protest song. I just want to cry whenever I listen to it. When I watch the video and he thinks he is going to drown I always do cry.

I have no objective thoughts on this song. I adore it.

I wish we all could shut the fuck up. Like if there was not a taboo on suicide would it be popular?

All this and more, in a nursery rhyme song.

Lucky

This song is Radiohead being Radiohead. It was a song that they donated to a charity called Help. In the 1990s there was a horrific war in the former Yugoslavia, they had seperated into a load of seperate countries that existed before Yugoslavia and I really don’t know the details but it just really kicked off and then NATO got involved and it kicked off even more.
I think it was 1995, I was at school, all of the popular bands made this album where they recorded songs in Bosnia or one of the countries and all of the money went to charity. It’s a fucking amazing album anyway even if it wasn’t for a good cause.
This was Radiohead’s song for that, I was a bit surpised it was on the album to be honest, it was the best song on Help and the album didn’t need it

The Tourist

It’s done. Really enjoyed this album. Still getting used to listening to albums again. This song I didn’t really ever notice at all until I was about 20 and it was just playing at some party and noone was listening to it because it was one of those situations where everyone was hungover from the party last night and I was ‘this song is so hungover’
If you have read this far, you must have the same illness as me

Thank you for sticking with it. I do love you. This is not well written particularly, I don’t care about that, I am trying to get emotions across and learn to write. If it means anything to anyone then it is beautiful.

I’ll see you in heaven out on the boat
