Radiohead: Pablo Honey

In honour of some shite, I am going to do my review an album thing and am going to listen to all of Radioheads official releases in order and comment on them.

I am not going to abandon them. I am a massive Radiohead fan even though I think they are kind of shit, they are in the right direction. So let’s go

As a preamble, Radiohead fans generally don’t like Pablo Honey. Because ‘Creep’ was such a sensation they were forced to record an album pretty quickly to make money, which is kind of the opposite of what Radiohead are about, they now have the power and they seem to go into a big castle and try to invent noises and then come out with 3 songs and loads of noises

But anyway. This review I am going to listen to the whole album, I think that that last one is my favourite. I will ramble while I listen because I remember it’s very much 90s indie and there are some interesting chords, but I am shit at guitar so I don’t understand.

Off for a cigarette and then Radioheed. If only it were one of those cider and blackcurrant pints

fannyheads

You

i like this, it’s pablum, like it’s very pro. It reminds me of Thailand, like they used to complain about it, they are trained musicians. We got this guys.

I really want to sleep to be honest

it’s a nice song, sound like Pearl Ham, nothing much to say

Creep

I had never hear this song before lol. I mean come on, it’s Creep. It’s so old now, but at the time it really was everything.

I had a T shirt with the lyrics on it and my brother beat me up and ripped it up in the fight. This album really is like a music thing, like Led Zeppelin or something, it’s just the guitar and the voice in harmony,

How do you?

This sounds like the sort of song a Canadian band would make. I bet they have never played this song, it’s filler. There is nothing to it

Stop Whispering

I like this song, it is very 90s and makes me think of these countries like Israel and Greece where they probably are still into this. I think it’s a Bob Dylan tribute?

It reminds me of the Mediterranean. Like I would never listen to it by choice, but it came on in a cafe and it would be fun.

This album is boring. It’s all the same song. Indie is shit

My friend has one of Jonny Greenwoods plectrums, how worthless. I saw Radiohead tour Ok Computer and I bought a TShirt with some drawings from the notebooks that I wore for years.

Didn’t like this song at all, no sir

Thinking About You

I did love this song, it’s more like Radiohead, it has stories in it, it’s funny listening to it now because it’s a lovely folk song but there are these 1990s synth pads.
I could play this on the guitar. a nice song

Anyone Can Play Guitar

This was one of the other good ones. There is a clip on YouTube where they are recording something else and they just play this and Thom Yorke starts doing some kind of performance art thing and these beautiful Americans are really confused.

This is a guitar show off song, like it’s weirdly underproduced, it’s like U2 or something and it doesn’t sound big. This is actually fun for me. I know its shit for you, I don’t really care mate

Ripcord

No this song is shit. It’s not shit, it just sounds like every song from the time. It’s ok, there just isn’t really anything here. I bet they did this in a day because the company needed some more songs for the album

To be honest although I’ve been nice it’s all like that, they are really really good but it’s all just makeweight

I get the impression that although because he is so good and likable everyone covers for him, but Thom Yorke is a pretty ill guy. Like I don’t know if he’s an addict, but he’s not someone you could hang out with. He’d be really unfriendly and then if he liked you he’d send you long streams of messages

Vegetable

Everything I said about Ripcord applies here

Prove Yourself

‘I can’t afford to breathe in this town’

Man this is why I fail at listening to albums. It gets so boring after half and hour of this. Like they are already good at music, but there just is not enough ideas to fill an album. And it stinks of production.

Nearly done

that’s not a song, I just think that I’m nearly done with the album

I Can’t

I can’t either mate. This is fucking GAY. This song actually sounds better, but it’s still, like they say that these producer guys make the album. Like the famous example for me is Rick Rubin made Jonny Cash cool, but he just had him playing guitar and singing, not true but that is the idea he wanted to get across. Because Jonny Cash has loads of fucking terrible albums where it was naff production, and then to have him actually sing instead of sing along to ballsweat was genius production

Lurgee

This song is nice. It should be in a film. Like sitting in a taxi at 5am and this is playing. Maybe I’m just happy because I got a rant out. There is this thing, and it’s like MSG in food and a special effect producers use on mid level pop. Like it’s just unfullfillig

I like huge empty spaces and it’s very hard to do

Blow Out

Fucking get in, it’s the end of the album lol. this sounds like a song from The Bends, the production is better, it’s disorienting in a good way. Soft and dark, like your mum

To be honest I didn’t enjoy that album at all. It’s like Radiohead are still a rock band who write songs, but now they go through their weird filter and sound really weird, this is Radiohead put through the American filter and there is way too much confection

I give it 6

Out of 100!
