I don’t know who is reading this, the show is for men under 25, like the remake is for people who were that. But I don’t want to be negative, Like everyone is built on teenage regrets.
The story is this boy Shinji who is sent to Tokyo which is underground because angels destroy the city. And he is adopted by Mitsuko who is a hot alcoholic
And he is there because he is genetically able to pilot robots because his dad made it all up. And he falls in love with this girl called Rei Ayunami who actually is a robot, and we find out that the twist is that his dad made the whole thing up. like his dad is also in love with Rei
The earth is threatened by these weird alien creatures called Angels who often look like biblical or mythological beings and they just appear and destroy the place like a bible story, but the humans are high technology and have these robots that can kill them.
There is a contrived explanation which doesn’t really make sense, but it’s up to these teenagers who can control the robots which are also animals.
I made it sound dumb, it is a very obvious metaphor, but it’s also well thought out. Like they are very clear ‘this is a metaphor about things that we can’t talk about’
Japanese are so stupid, it’s worse than British, like they are an advanced society? What the shit?
But of course there is a message in there. Like Shinji becomes frustrating and he doesn’t want any of this and he does everything to avoid it, but it is what it is, like he is a man and he has to embrace that power.
The ending is the weirdest ever. They did a troll ending where is was all a dream and they told you ‘this is not real’ and they got terrorised, so they had the true ending of the fantasy, and it was the fact that the Rei was god, like humans were made to make a japanese teenager, it was also stupid, but we got to see animals eat people.
There was a legit terrorist attack where someone was murdered because the ending was so bad.
the remake was really weird. like they put in new characters and Shin Ji had a boyfriend. He wasn’t gay but he had a boyfriend. and at the end he was on a metro station in Tokyo and it was all ok because they were all young. I mean sure. I’m signed on I’ll go along with it
There is a real end of dramatic fiction. people uprise and win. I get that Eva was different because it was humans fighting the evil god, but they still failed to answer the question, like the original was this question about what will humans do when it actually is over? And it was all coded with Kaballa and Bible stuff, like the Japanese were fighting aliens and the Americans wanted to let the aliens win. It’s very coded, like there is an element that is Japanese that as a foreigner you can’t get.
