I’ll start this off by promoting my new music release and then use that as a jump off point for more rambling. Back on the beer, so this will hopefully slow me down and cheer me up
Although the first song might not think it, but this one I consciously decided to sound like Burial. The second two songs definitely have the sound that most people think of with Burial, although it’s also not really like Burial, but what he does nowadays doesn’t sound like that anyway.
Quick little ramble about Burial. The great thing about him is not how well done it is. If you actually listen to the music and then compare it to Burial, he spends so much more time than me, I think that I’m competent, but it’s not really going to blow people’s minds. And plus, I’m making a couple of tunes that sound like a genre that he invented around 2008.

But there is a thing I go for that I think that I kind of achieve that is the beauty of Burial. His stuff sounds like remembering music, rather than music. Especially the first two albums, they are made of pads and samples, and really filtered beats and foley and so on, and it sounds like getting the bus back from a party, or sitting at home feeling wrecked thinking about last weekend. That’s always what I wanted to do with my music.
I remember Mark Fisher who I mentioned the other day gave him a direct parallel with The Caretaker who made these really bizarre records that were loads of fairly obscure 1920s love songs, first records ever, and he put them through a filter and mixed them and it sounded like an aspic of the past. Honestly my rambling about this is just inferior to Mark Fisher on the same topic.

I would say another completely different example was the The Streets, which Mark Fisher was way too cool to say. He was not subtle, it was a guy who could kind of rap and kind of make beats, rapped about being a low middle class English guy who couldn’t express himself properly, somehow became the avatar for drinking and taking pills or something. I was a fan, he’s one of those ones, like his weird cousins Sleaford Mods, it was just absolutely it for a couple of years, now, unlistenable.
Does any of this have a point? I dunno. Ok since I’ve written a lot and it seems like it should have a point. Open another beer and make up a conclusion then add some pictures
Ok, I don’t really have a conclusion at time of writing. I’ll just put in another liminal picture and call it a day
